Calendering

He use of calendering

Calendering is the process of deforming sheet metal to obtain cylindrical or conical shapes, depending on the type of semi-finished product that you want to obtain (such as tubes, metal rings, or tanks). It is a production process that requires extreme precision and expertise.

This operation takes place using machines called calenders (composed of a series of metal rollers), which create curvature of a specific radius on the sheet being processed.
Someca uses calenders with either three or four parallel axis rollers.  The sheet is constrained as it passes between the rollers and forced to follow a circular trajectory, and the radius of curvature desired is obtained by adjusting the position of the rollers.
Calendering is a complex process, which requires a lot of experience and specific skills to work on different formats, creating different thicknesses and shapes. This guarantees that the resulting product will last a long time, avoiding any rupture of the sheet, in compliance with the tolerance limits agreed with the customer.
The correct setting of the calender, together with excellent manual skills, and knowledge of the materials are essential for such work. Thanks to the extensive experience we have and the calenders we have at our disposal, we are able to process all types of carbon steel and stainless steel from the thinnest up to 6 mm.
